Cake makes me drool. I love a good chocolate cake, or one with raspberry filling… or carrot cake! Man I love some carrot cake… but unfortunately I am not so great at making cake as I am at eating it. When I make cake I tend to forget things like baking powder (you know.. that stuff that makes cake fluffy like a cake???) so I envy those like the folks over at Cake Envy who just KNOW how to make that perfect, delectable treat that makes me drool every time I walk into their Greenlake store, and make it so pretty that you almost don’t want to eat it (hey, I said ALMOST)
. Have you been yet to their store yet? It’s a beautiful, open, clean, airy store across from Greenlake at the north end of the lake and you have GOT to go! You walk in, and deliciousness envelops you! But I digress…
Cake Envy is a master at not only making cakes, but making cakes pretty. So pretty that you almost don’t want to eat them… almost.
And if you win their package… you get to learn from the masters! Just check out their interview to find out all about it
Now, while you are reading, I am going to go find me some cupcakes….
Tell us a little bit about the yourself!! What do you specialize in?
We specialize in creating the perfect wedding cake using the finest local and organic ingredients. Our cakes are made with love by our talented and educated bakers who have a specific degree in Baking & Pastry and/or Culinary Arts. Everything we produce is made from scratch and baked in our open kitchen. We like to practice good behavior by supporting other local businesses and taking care of our planet by composting & recycling….and making our customers do the same!
What drew you to the wedding industry?
Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve loved baking and cooking. In jr high, I made it a goal to one day open my own cake shop. After high school, I pursued my dreams and attended culinary school at The Art Institute of Seattle. While in school, I started working for Starbucks Corporate in R&D Food & Beverage and also started making custom wedding cakes for friends and family. Word of mouth spread and I started making more and more cakes. In 2007, I left Starbucks and started Cake Envy as a side business baking out of a commercial kitchen in Queen Anne. In October of 2011, I opened my first retail location right on Green Lake – cafe style with a seating area, free wifi, and a space to host parties and events. With a team of 14, we’ve expanded to serving coffee & teas, wine & bubbly (to pair with your cake!), and also creating custom cupcakes, cake pops, and sandwiches!

Tell us your favorite part of weddings.
I love being a part of a couple’s most important day of their lives. Food is very important for me and I love the fact of being part of the ceremonial cutting of the cake. It represents many great things but the best: a bride and groom’s commitment to each other.
Do you have any insider secrets to tell our brides to make their planning (and enjoyment of their wedding) easier?
The best tip I can give a couple getting married is to hire the right vendors who you feel comfortable with and trust….and then let them do the work they were meant to do. I see many couples asking friends and family to help with little tasks to avoid certain vendor costs. It can sometimes become a burden for guests rather than a fun celebration. In other words…hire a wedding planner! Enjoy the moment with your guests, because if they have a good time, you will too.
Is there anything else you would like our readers to know?
Our wedding cakes start at $7.00 per serving. This package also includes any rentals…..yep! complimentary cake stand rentals!! Along with that we use local and organic ingredients and bake everything fresh in our one-and-only open kitchen. We don’t even have freezers so we can ensure that your cake will never ever be frozen.
I’m a huge believer in that desserts should never be overly sweet and our cakes follow the same values. Using Italian Meringue buttercream as opposed to other versions of sugary frostings, our cakes are much lighter, less sweet, and better for you. Definitely fitting for more of an adult palate!
